WELCOME TO THE LIBRARY

The ZSC Library is the central information resource centre where traditional library services and electronic resources are easily accessible, enhancing capacity building and sustaining a literate Defence Community.

The Library operates the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) software. It has a database of all books and periodicals of relevance catalogued by Title, Author and Subject. The catalogue is available on all computers connected to the LAN.

The Library has over 10000 volumes. Books are stacked in different shelves under the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme.

To serve the teaching, research, curricular and extension programs of the College through organised, relevant, accessible and efficient information services.

VISION

Towards excellent and competitive services, the ZSC Library, in support of teaching, learning and research provides links between print and electronic information sources for systematic access to accurate and efficient retrieval of materials, more active role for competent librarians with a an opportunity for quality integrated library services through modern library facilities and technical innovations.

INFORMATION DESK

The library has an information desk where clients can ask for whatever assistance they might require.

LIBRARY COLLECTION

The library has a growing collection of printed books and electronic resources such as Journals, Dissertations and other publications covering a wide range of subjects’ areas. The print collection is divided into four sub-collections.

OPEN SHELF

Books in this section can be taken out for 14 days and failure to return them attracts a fine of ZW $5 per day.

RESERVE COLLECTION

This collection consist of materials where hard to find books are reserved for a first come first serve basis., they are placed on reserve based on the frequency with which they are requested by the library clients. The library will have only limited copies of the book for which many people want to borrow. The numbers of the books on demand that re on short supply and these can only be checked out overnight or over the weekend. Failure to return library materials form this section attracts a fine of ZW$2 per hour.

REFERENCE COLLECTIONS

These collections consist of materials that are meant to aid research by providing quick and accessible information on any particular topic. These materials are usually used to find facts or provide broad overviews of the topics. They should not be used as major sources for example: dictionaries, encyclopaedias yearbooks. They are meant to be accessible to as many people as possible and as such are not permitted to leave the library.

DONATIONS

These are gifts and donations from well wishers.
