Brigadier General Joe Muzvidziwa was born on 15 March 1958 in Chibi (Masvingo).  He was attested in the army on 21 October 1980 and was commissioned on 21 October 1981.  He attended the following military courses; Commando, Advanced Intelligence, Foundation, Foundation Infantry, Range Management(Nigeria), Company Commanders’, Parachute Training, Junior Staff Course, Joint Command and Staff Course, General Overview of Modern Peacekeeping(Canada), Human Rights of Military Trainers of Military Peacekeepers(Ghana), Civil Military Coordination(South Africa), Understanding Conflict and Conflict Analysis(Rwanda), National Defence Course, Organizational Instruction for African Cooperation Course for Decision Makers(Egypt). He professionally holds the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Psychology and a Master of Science Degree in International Studies with the Zimbabwe Open University and the University of Zimbabwe respectively. He is a holder of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Psychology (ZOU) and Masters in International Studies (UZ)
